The cold, hard truth about life

Everyone has to grow up, there's no denying it. However, what's painful and difficult, is not the added responsibilities, not the burden or stress society might bear on you, not the constant need to battle the prices of the economy and not the 'tied down' feeling associated with adulthood. The melancholy and pain of growing up comes from moving on.

You won't have all the time in the world to spend with each other, without caring for anything. Spending everyday together - in class, and after school, even during weekends and holidays - will slowly but surely, dwindle. Spending occasional time together on weekends, sometimes smiling at each other in school, with infrequent catch-ups and texts would soon cease to be. We would all grow up, maybe find new friends, maybe commit into relationships. That 'magic' that once brought us together would fade. In due time, say after National Service, we would probably forget about each other because of negligence, awkwardness or due to lack of effort to meet up.

What would be left behind would be bittersweet memories, and a myriad of 'what if's. Memories of your happiest times together, memories of joint endeavors, memories of squabbles, tantrums and fights, memories of fighting together, memories of being there for each other because damn it, best friends take on the world together. And then, what if. What if we just held on slightly more tightly, pushed on slightly harder, tried just a little more. What if we just opened up, what if I never left, what if we pushed through?

Because friends never forget, and memories never fade. If you cherished me as much as I did you, please stay for a little while more, maybe forever. To the 13 friends I love the most. ^^

The world is a cold place filled with 'what if's.

It's almost impossible to lead a life without 'what if's.

Oh god, I'll miss you.

Shit I text my mum

(After discussing with my mother if I should go see a doctor, and that I'm released from school rather early, and that I want to change out of my uniform before visiting the doctor...)

Mum: Then go back and change

Me: Affirmative.

Mum: Y u say me like that - the meaning is that which affirms / to say that a thing is

Me: I concur to that factual nugget filled with information

Mum: Wrong channel (a reference to our daily lives as she watches mostly the Mandarin TV channel while I the English speaking ones)

Me: I am deeply apologetic as I am incapable of understanding and discerning the concept of your profound reply

Mum: Not free to talk to u , I need to works, I know your English v good la

Me: I am profoundly thankful and grateful for your rare words of praise in regards to my skills in the language of English, though as the humble person I am, I cannot take full credit without a guilty conscience. Much as I would like to extend my gratitude to all who have bestowed upon me the teachings in the language, I cannot digress in addressing the fact that I am truly woeful for your current status of work as I, on the contrary, am about to be dismissed of school duty, unlike you who must continue yours.

Mum: Ka na sai (you're a shit in Hokkien)

Me: I am sorry, but I beg your pardon?

Future Ted: Kids, you can't talk yourself into falling in love. It doesn't take days of deliberation, when it's real you know pretty quickly, and with absolute certainty. I had forgotten that, but I was about the be reminded.

Look who's back!

I'm back, guys! It's been a hectic 2 week period, and I've just finished my exams today. Am looking forward to starting to blog again once more!

Thursday, September 15, 2011

Why hello my readers! Long time no see! I bet the handful of you has been decimated to a mere, what, 3? Haha!

Anyways, sorry for not blogging for so long. Been a busy week studying for my prelim exams. Sucks to be me, meh.

Oh man, if only Pokémon was real! I would be storming around town with one of my recently favourite Pokémon, Kangas-mother fucking-khan. Like look at it! Just look at it! It's a fucking massive kangaroo dinosaur monstrosity! And I don't know! It just kicks ass! I had it from the Pokéwalker on HeartGold, and it quickly became my strongest member, overpowering my stupid Typhlosion which isn't even good IMO. Lul!

Anyway if Pokémon was real I would probably have these following 6 Pokémon.

Kangaskhan. Motherly and filled with awesome. Packs fucking massive punches! Comet punch, elemental punch, Dynamic punch, Sucker punch, Mega punch, Focus punch, fruit punch, she'd be a beast, I have a hunch. Anyways, here's a picture I drew of a Kangaskhan!

Charizard. Mother fucker been my favourite since Gen 1. Though not competitively viable in the OU metagame, or what shit, this sucker is a flying, fire spitting, god damned dragon! That's the dream! Of nerdy kid boys, anyway. I'd get him to be like, my personal jet and bodyguard. Like bros for life, man.

Then I'd get an Arcanine! I'd always love dogs! Now I'd get a fire breathing one! How. Fucking. Amazing. Is. That! I'd ride this beast as it goes around Extremespeed-ing! This is so damn cool. I'm picturing the places I'd go with this guy! Like snowy mountains and icy hills, we'd trek the crap outta this measly geographical landmarks and we'd huddle together for warmth. Woo! Like this, bitches!

Next up! Lapras!!!!!!! Dude I'd go riding on this bro in the fucking seven seas! We'd just chill in the warm waters of the Caribbean and I'll just suntan and shit! We'd go to the Indian sea and I don't know, reenact events during the Silk Road age? Lmao, we'd travel to the Pacific Ocean and fish for salmon all day! Maybe go to the Arctic Ocean and poke some penguins. Hell yeah! Then she can freeze me into a block of ice and send me to the future!

5th, I'll get Crobat! Or Brobat, as I'd call it! We'd dart around in places sneaking around! We'll be sneaky, yes sneaky, Charlie. *imagines Charlie the Unicorn* Lmao we be all ninja and shit! It'd be like my own ninja-ish Pokémon! How fucking cool!

Last but not least, I'll get a Joltik! He'd be the little bro in the family! But he'd be all like cute and stuff, and of course, be a fucking awesome lightning inducing tick. It's so cute and fluffy and electrifying zomg!!!! A mother fucking bug that's so cute! How can you fucking resist?!

How fucking awesome would that be! I'd be like the most motivated and determined and thoughtful trainer and shit! I'd be fucking awesome. And badass. Like this picture, except with more awesome and bad assery!

Anyhow... Another random thought: If I'm equally racist to all races, am I really racist??? :o

I'm a reciprocating man. If you don't want me to go, I would never leave. I just wanna skip ahead to the average life I've been wanting to get since a kid. Find my soul mate, spoil her, and be happy together forever. Till death do us part. But nobody's always that lucky to find that someone so early, like some people. Meh! Anyway, everybody's been saying I look emo/fierce/grumpy... That's like my default face, sheesh!

Meh. I've started writing on the topic 'Are pictures more powerful than words' last night. Got to like 3 paragraphs, and can't seem to find the energy to finish it... ): Stay tuned, and my apologies to readers (if I have any, haha!)

Anyway, went shopping today! :) Went to UNIQLO and bought 2 tees and 2 shorts, hehe.

and even

Thanks! For always being there! :)

Thursday, September 8, 2011

Well guys, I haven't have much time to blog recently as my examinations are around the corner.

So well. You can wait for actual updates or just look out for small snippets of whatever I feel like posting randomly.

Anyway, one of my ambitions from young would be to become a novelist! It'd be so damn cool, to write out my lame geeky fantasies, hur hur hur. In anyway, this is a composition I've done as practice during my 'O' Levels examinations period. It's a narrative, so meh.

And oh, it's 100% original content, though it's copypasta from my other blog, hehe.

Here it is!

1. Write about an occasion when friends turned into enemies.

I have always admired true friendship that withstood the longest of time, the furthest of distances, and the most difficult of tests. I also believe friendship is key to success. However, nowadays, people just take friendship for granted, more like a source of convenience than a bond between a lifetime of soul mates. Superficial friendship is extremely common nowadays, especially between teenagers, like the quarrelling Jamie and Lynn over here. These two had only swore eternal friendship between each other only a week ago, and now they're engaged in a heated argument like blood enemies. The most ironic part is that their friendship has been ruined by a worthless and trivial matter.

Jamie and Lynn are both fifteen year old schoolgirls. Jamie has dark wavy hair that reaches her shoulders. Her skin tone was as fair as snow, and her facial features were pretty and elfin. Being quite tall for her age, her built and beautiful figure resembles one of a model's. As the most popular girl in school, her pretty smile melted many unsuspecting boys' hearts, and she is the most sought after girl in school. Lynn, on the other hand, is a little bit shorter than Jamie. She has shoulder length jet black hair, and her body is extremely atheletic, the result of being in the school's various sports teams. Though she does not look as mesmerising as Jamie, her big, round hazel coloured eyes, petite nose and the wide smile she always wear on her face had her a fairly large amount of suitors. These two ravishing beauties are often the center of attention for most male teenagers in the school. But I pity these fools. Beauty is but skin deep, if only they knew the dark side of these two girls, they would probably be disgusted and appalled.

It was just awhile ago that Jamie and Lynn started quarreling. As their little squabble got more intense, Jamie's face quickly contorted with rage and hate. Her once enchanting features were no more. Her furrow of her brows and frown showed that she was smothering with rage. Lynn was no different from Jamie. She was furious. Her face turned scarlet red as she took offense at an insult Jamie hurled mercilessly at her 'friend'. The squabble soon grew into a major quarrel. Heart-breaking, confidence-crushing insults were thrown at each other. Both of them were not spared from the excessive use of vulgarities too. It was obvious their friendship was over, and that they would never become friends again. The thought of that lifted my spirits a little.

I despised them, for using friendship as just another way to make each other more popular. I rejoiced and grew elated as the fight intensified. With each insult, my joy grew, I was elated to see two friends turn into enemies. Soon, the fight escalated and the tension in the room was bursting. How I wished I had a video camera to record down the fall of their friendship. Their voices grew louder, and their voices were filled with each other's burning wrath. Both of them quivering and livid with rage, their fight would soon become a brawl, I silently thought myself, as another euphoria took hold of me.

"Shut up, you ugly pig!" Jamie spat, "You two are never meant to be!"

"What did you say, you mutant freak?" Lynn shot back, daring Jamie with a raised fist. "My patience is not to be tested, you dinosaur face!"

"You're asking for it!" Jamie snapped, but before she could finish, Lynn shot her fist at her.

I laughed mercilessly at their childishness. Fists flew and punches were dished, the sorry state of the two girls were laughable. Now, Jamie's face was a bloodied mess, and Lynn's hair was extremely messed up, and her T-shirt was badly torn. With a cry of anger, Jamie throws herself at Lynn, grabs her hair, and with almost superhuman strength, she tries to pull every single strand of hair out. Lynn, in response, tries to shake Jamie off, and with her powerful legs, she gives Jamie an extremely forceful kick that sends Jamie to the ground, panting and sweating profusely. What an exciting fight, I thought to myself.

It was not the first time women fought for me. Being an exquisite piece of jewellery, I could heighten one's beauty when put on. With many large and glamorous pearls tastefully stringed into a necklace, I was an aesthetically pleasing piece of must-have jewellery for beauty queens. I was also the reincarnate of Jealousy. Countless friendships were wreaked because of women's desire for me. I was a gem in their eyes that they have to lay their hands on. I was also the seed of jealousy that would grow between two friends. Lynn was showing me off to Jamie when Jamie started commenting that I looked ugly on Lynn. Jamie was obviously jealous of Lynn, and their friendship would soon be over just because of a piece of ornament. How pathetic.

Just then, Jamie stands up, and pins Lynn to the wall. Excitement surged through me as I believed their catfight would continue. Then, with the strength of a bull and the dexterity of a monkey, Jamie used her right hand to strangle Lynn, and with her left hand, she grabbed hold of me.

In a voice trembling with rage and fatigue, she yelled blaringly, "If I can't have it, neither can you!", as she started to apply more force.

I braced myself for the worse.

Our lives would be our own undoing.

Think about it. By living like we are doing now, we would be our own undoing. Sigh.

Anyways, not in the blogging mood today. Too much stuff to brood about. Meh. Hope you readers have a good day nonetheless!

Question: If the world was struck with a zombie pandemic, WHAT DO?!

Hmmm. I've lately been intrigued by this question. A few months ago, in the merry month of June, I've watched Season 1 of High School of the Dead, and just yesterday, I started playing Left 4 Dead 2... So I've been thinking about zombies recently.

I posed a similar question to my family, and my mum and brother both said they would just wait for death. Meh. My dad said something impulsive which is without much thought. Something along the line of just driving the hell out of our apartment into somewhere. My brother also mentioned about a specific place in this island where this are firearms.

I probably would do it a bit differently though. I probably like a bit of action and violence in my life, so here's what I would probably do.

As soon as I hear about the pandemic, I'd start filling containers up with water. I would rush to the convenience store which is a stone's throw away from my house to stock up on imperishable food stuff. Canned shit, potato chips, I don't know what else. Carry a weapon with me too, just in case the store got hit by the pandemic.

After that, gather everything back in my apartment. Pack it into bags and then head for my dad's car. Maybe before that, I'll call up a few bros and loved ones to ask if they're okay, say our last words and parting goodbyes, and maybe form an alliance with a few trusty bros.

Get into the car, pick up some of them on the way. Would probably head to a big body of water, i.e. ocean, sea, whatever. Since Singapore doesn't have large lakes, I cannot possibly go to the East or West coasts, neither can I access the ports since most people will already be there...

Meh. Will probably get to the commercial harbour. Get inside a huge ass tanker ship, and pray to God that it isn't full of infected deadfucks. Drive the fucking vessel into the middle of the ocean and stay there. Chill with my water, food I've got from the store, maybe sip a couple o' beer and just wait for salvation or for every fucking zombie to finally die...

In the meantime, try to use a smoke signal for S.O.S. so that rescue or scouting helicopters can find my position and save my sorry ass. Maybe try to get hold of a binoculars to assess the situation on shore. Or get hold of a radio to listen to news update.

If I can't get into the middle of the sea, I need to barricade myself. Drive to the most rural area with a military camp. Try to get inside, or seek help inside. Offer assistance. Get guns and shit. Instant BAMFization! Sweet. Shoot zombies that approach. Die an honourary zombie slayer, mo fo'.

In any case, I won't be afraid of death for death only comes duely...
Random questions to think about:

If the world is suddenly struck by a zombie pandemic, what do you?! GO.

If you can only choose one, which would you choose: Pokémon and true love. If you choose Pokémon, you will never find true love... GO.

If you're left with this ultimatum: Live to a ripe old age of 105, or eat bacon as your only meal, but die at the age of 23. GO.

If you have to choose a dog, what breed would it be? GO.

If you could have 1 superpower, which would you choose? Mind-reading, ability to fly or superstrength? GO.

And the last and best question saved for the last...

If... If... I say, if you're happy and you know it... What do you do? CLAP YOUR HAND, MOTHER FUCKER.

The Surprise Up in the Attic

Teresa and Steven had just moved into their new house. Down a winding road, a little blue house stands erect behind a small driveway. The blue house appeared to just had a makeover paint job, except for its roof. It's roof, a brick red, appeared old and cracked, as if any measly amount of impact would shake it down. The chimney also looks worn and parts of it were chipped and pieces of bricks were broken off.

On the whole, the neighborhood was a peace, quiet little place, albeit a little too peaceful to the paranoid Teresa. The tree branches sway willingly along with the flow of the autumn breeze. Maple leaves cascade down on the sidewalk as the Hobsons drove up to their new house. Walking down the driveway littered with fresh maple leaves, the couple inspected their new home. The garden needed a little trimming, the floor is filled with fallen leaves, and the fence needs a paint job and some fixing, just some usual normal chores new house owners probably need to do, they thought.

As they entered the door, a smile instantaneously formed on their cheeks. It was beautiful, it was definitely a dream house - their dream house. Large and spacious, the living room looked big enough to fit scores of guests. The dining room appeared neat and clean, befitting the hospitable wife that is Teresa, with the chandelier adding a nice little classy touch to the atmosphere that their home already seem to radiate. The study room wasn't big, yet it appeared capable of storing whatever the Hobsons needed to put in it - two study tables, four shelves, books, a globe and a computer. They explored their new home some more.

Everything was perfect and to their taste. After inspecting every nook and cranny of the building, except one place, Teresa finally said, 'The attic's the last spot!'. In compliance, Steven took out a ladder and laid it under the attic door. Torchlight in hand, and with Teresa steadying the ladder, Steven climbed up the steps and opened the attic door. It was dark and smelled of something pungent. A durian? No, that only grows in Southeast Asia. Sour milk? That's as ridiculous as the durian idea. A rotting corpse? Shit, is that why this building seemed like a steal?

The pungent smell continued to attack Steven's nostrils, which piqued his interest in the source of it even more. He used the torchlight and shone around, and he explored the place, guided by his nose and the torchlight. It wasn't long before he came upon an old wooden chest.

'Did you find anything?' Teresa called out from below.

'Yea, a chest!' replied Steven as he tried to open the chest.

He tugged on the lid. It wouldn't budge. He tried again with more force, and this time, the lid opened easily and he fell back with a thud. What awaited him was a sight to behold.

After moments of silence, Teresa again called out, 'What did you find inside?'

'It seems to be an assortment of items! There's a photo of a young girl, a CD with creepy looking dolls on it, a great red candle, Jack-in-the-box that has been damaged and other weird stuff...'

His eyes suddenly bulged as he caught something in the corner of his eye. He followed the direction in which the figure zoomed to, and he let out a gasp. In front of him was a children's doll, looking animatedly at him. As if noticing his fear, the doll smiled at him in response, revealing bloodied fangs. Without time for reaction, the doll moved closer and closer to Steves as it's large eyes started bleeding. He tried to let out a scre

To-do list:

1. Make a proper post
2. Post an argumentative essay, probably on 'Are pictures more powerful than words'
3. Blog more
4. Start new blogs on a. Reminders of myself and b. Dedications to someone
5. Make some reviews!!!
6. I dunno
7. ??????
8. PROFIT!!!

Anyhow, just came across a quote today, albeit it is not as flavorful literally, it spoke to me. I came across it on a YouTube video. It goes, "When you want to be successful as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful!"

Seriously, how much do I want it? Am I working hard enough? Or am I just finding excuses not to work harder? Do I really live for it as I claim or is it just some shitty fabricated life to add some spice in my life? I don't know. But I know for sure that I need to get motivated and pumped up. I need to stay true my roots.

I'm a man of few words, but then again, my passion and my love speaks loud and boundlessly. I am shy and am an awkward turtle. I occasionally make friends with strangers, though it might take more than a few meetings for me to initiate talking. I am pretty funny I guess, and I'm a hopeless romantic.

A little something about the author of this blog

Hello all.

It's me again.

A little about myself before I start blogging.

I go by the name of Zij, or Big Zij. I'm born in 1993, that makes me 18 years old. I live in the sunny island of Singapore, out here somewhere in Southeast Asia. In my country, I'm probably above average in my academics, as statistics show that the school and academic stream I attend can only be entered by the top ~25ish% of the country's cohort.

I'm a man of hobbies. I like to play basketball, I like to sing, albeit rather badly I guess, I like to dance(hip hop) amongst others. And one of the more significant one, that gave birth to this brainchild, is my hobby of thinking.

From young, I like to think. I wouldn't call it philosophizing, but some thoughts are rather mind-boggling and would probably have no answers. Writing has also been one of my favourite activities, and writing narratives with plot twists and creative storylines has been said to be a flair, but I digress.

I think. From young, I have radical thoughts. The afterlife, the extraterrestrial life, the solutions to world threats, world peace, society amongst others.

I am also extremely lazy. I hate to study. I don't consider myself the smartest of creatures, but I guess the sliver of intelligence endowed to me, and of course, last minute work, has managed to help me scrape through years of studies.

I am a happy-go-lucky person, I guess, and I have pretty much a lot of friends. A challenge in life would be to not be so naive and trustworthy I guess. I don't know. And I should stop behaving like an awkward turtle. Oh, and probably cherish more, and regret less.

In what I feel truly matters to myself, I strive to achieve. And I'm on a never ending quest to find true happiness. For what else is there to live, besides for pursuing happiness, and happiness itself?

Welcome, one and all, to my humble blog! My blog is called Confined by Conformities and it will be my general blog, where I blog about random stuff, ranging from debates, daily happenings, discussions, reviews and whatnot.

What does my blog name mean, you ask?

Confined by Conformities

con·fine

[kuhn-fahyn for 1, 2, 5, 6; kon-fahyn for 3, 4] Show IPA verb, -fined, -fin·ing, noun
verb (used with object)
1.
to enclose within bounds; limit or restrict: She confined herremarks to errors in the report. Confine your efforts tofinishing the book.
2.
to shut or keep in; prevent from leaving a place because ofimprisonment, illness, discipline, etc.: For that offense hewas confined to quarters for 30 days.

con·form·i·ty

[kuhn-fawr-mi-tee] Show IPA
noun, plural -ties.
1.
action in accord with prevailing social standards, attitudes, practices, etc.

The URL of this blog, Confined by Conformities generally refers to being shut down and kept in due to the prevailing social behaviour and norms.

In our world, trade is essential and knowledge is key, but ultimately, power means dominance - and with dominance comes anything and everything. We use money for trade, and we put our young into schools and institutes to educate them. We learn that with money, we can have power - to purchase, and that with knowledge, we can have power - to change. Of course, knowledge and money come hand in hand; you need to have complete information to make the right choices to earn; you need to have a rather lump sum of money to receive education beyond the tertiary level. And with the progress of the world economy, society is shaped by the conformities of the world.

As people become more affluent, and subsequently more wise and experienced, the means of furthering their respective qualities become easier and more achievable. The power that comes with money and knowledge would be too much to bear - and thus, the easiest form of power, knowledge, becomes highly sought after. As society begins to be shaped by the rising conformities that is education, more and more children and teenagers are put into educational institutes to 'secure their future', to such an extent that many are not enjoying their quest for knowledge, but just living their lives, and only that.

The conformations mutate, bearing its ugly face at society, which seems to be indifferent about it. Parents force their young to study, even though studying may not be in their best abilities. They are taught from young that good grades would get you a high paying salary, and bad grades would deem you as an unworthy child. Oh, what a world ours had become.

Whatever happened to differentiation? Whatever happened to living for happiness? Whatever happened to personal interests? Whatever happened to dreams?

And this is not the case only for knowledge. Many conformaties in life glare at us, but we, alone cannot act against it. Money is seen as omnipotent to many - and many risks limbs and lives for it. Victory is seen as superiority and dominance - and many play dirty and down under to achieve it. Knowledge is seen as the immediate ladder to success - and many force their way, by hook or by crook, to attain it. Personal beliefs are seen as better than others - and many fight, even sacrifice the innocent, to prove it.

These are the conformities in life, that confine us in our pathetic, miserable shell.

We need to break free, to find a life, to lead a life where we are truly happy. Why should we follow what others do? Can't we decide what makes us truly happy?

Even though man has found a way to do what we originally live to do: survive, we should not conform to society just because. What we should live for now, is for happiness. For why live on, if you're just miserable and feel like you're dying every single other day?
